Activities for Week 2 (Week Beginning 11th January)

Submitted by Mrs Ferrier on

Hello Year 5! Well done to all of you for adapting so quickly to life in lockdown and adjusting to remote learning again at such short notice. You have all made a brilliant start, judging by all the hard work you have been doing and uploading for us. It has been great to see so many of you each day on Zoom and for us all to see each other more often than last time!

Spellingframe Website

Submitted by Mrs Ferrier on

The children were shown how this website works during our zoom session. They can have an explore of the free sections to get a feel for it, then we will be using this to set spellings each week. We will only access the free parts - we do not expect you to have to pay for additional content to access the games!  More details to follow on Monday.

Happy New Year and Thank You!

Submitted by Mrs Ferrier on

We would like to wish you all a Happy New Year and to say a huge thank you for our wonderful Christmas gifts and kind words, we were incredibly overwhelmed!

All of Year 5 had a brilliant Autumn term and, although it doesn't look normal at the moment, will hopefully continue to enjoy a wonderful Spring term.

Take care and stay safe.

Mrs Ferrier, Mrs Davis and Mr Masingiri.

Christmas Reading Bingo

Submitted by Mrs Ferrier on

Your child should be coming home with a Christmas Reading Bingo sheet to try and complete over the holidays as a fun way to keep their reading ticking over. There is a copy available to download in the activities section. All completed entries will go into a prize draw to win a book. Full details are on the sheet.

Thank you for all your support with your child’s reading at home over the Autumn term. Their progress has been fantastic and it really does have an impact on all areas of their learning.

Book Ideas for Christmas

Submitted by Mrs Ferrier on

I have had quite a few requests for Christmas book ideas from both parents and children so in the 'Links' tab I have uploaded the Top 100 Recommended Reads for Year 5, which features a range of modern and classic fiction as well as some non-fiction, poetry and picture books. There is a great selection of books, some of which have already proved popular in Year 5 this year. The majority are on Accelerated Reader - you can check this by logging onto www.arbookfind.co.uk

Skills Practice!

After the Christmas break, the children will be creating space scenes using a technique called applique, where small pieces of fabric are sewn on to a larger piece of felt.

Christmas Homework Holiday!

Submitted by Mrs Davis on

Last week's was our final homework for this term.  Homework will next be uploaded on Tuesday 5th January 2021.

New spellings will be uploaded on Monday 4th January, ready for testing on Friday 8th January.

Thanks for all your support in helping your child to complete their homework.  Have a lovely Christmas.

Elton John Glasses

Submitted by Mrs Ferrier on

If you haven't yet made a pair of Elton John glasses, please do! The link is now in the activities section.

We will be filming our song on Friday so please bring your completed glasses in ready for that. Don't forget you need your Christmas jumper for Friday too.

Thank you.
