Good morning Year 5! We are looking forward to seeing you dressed up in your World Book Day Costumes today. We will be talking about the books that inspired them. Please bring along any of your potato characters to the 11am class session so we can see them all. Feel free to bring along anything else you have created like bookmarks, models or your fabulous cakes and biscuits (if there are any left!). We have really enjoyed looking at all the fabulous World Book Day tasks you have already completed!
Hello Year 5! Welcome to our last week of remote learning. Instead of just celebrating World Book Day, we thought we would dedicate the whole week to a range of activities based on the wonderful world of books and reading. The theme of this year’s World Book Day is ‘share a story’. It would be great if you could share some reading with someone at home - maybe a younger sibling, or even share your reading with another relative or friend via a video call!
Welcome back Year 5! We hope you had a well-earned rest over half-term and have kept yourselves safe and well.
At the moment, we know we have 2 further weeks of remote learning. This week will continue in the same way as before, with our daily Zoom sessions and a range of other activities for you to choose to complete at home. Next week, we will be doing all sorts of activities linked to World Book Day.
Hello Year 5! We have almost survived the first half-term of remote teaching and learning! Well done to all of you for adapting so quickly to this way of working. You will all deserve a week’s break by the time we get to Friday!
We have had some brilliant books recommended on our Year 5 Padlet. Thank you! This is just a snapshot...follow this link to find out what your friends think of a whole range of books!
The link is also under the ‘links’ section and it updates instantly as soon as a new book is added. Email me or let me know in one of the zoom sessions if you have a recommendation and I will add your suggestions.

EG in 5F very kindly sent this link to Star Count 2021, which she thought would be of interest for our current space topic. It looks fantastic!
If you are interested in being a 'citizen scientist' and taking part in a star count to help scientists map stars and research light pollution, there is a free digital information pack to download.
Following the guide and the viewfinder that is part of it, you need to locate the star Orion and count all the stars you can see within it. No telescopes needed and it can be completed from your garden or even an upstairs window!
This week is Children's Mental Health Week and the guide below for parents and carers has some top tips for helping children express themselves.
Hello Year 5! Once again, we have been blown away by how hard you have been working and the quality of the work you have been producing. We certainly have a year group of multiplication whizzes now! There have been some superb uploads including diary entries from August’s point of view, brilliant theme park literacy work, impressive vector drawings, some amazing rocket sculptures and a wide selection of other work and activities that you have been busy doing at home.
Due to popular demand, I have started reading the remaining chapters of Time Travelling with a Hamster, so you can find out what happens to Al and his hamster!
In the links section, I will upload videos of me reading the book a few chapters at a time. The videos are uploaded via YouTube, but can only be accessed via the links on our website for security reasons. You will not be able to find them through the search function.
