Week 8: World Book Day Week

Submitted by Mrs Ferrier on
WBD week

Hello Year 5! Welcome to our last week of remote learning. Instead of just celebrating World Book Day, we thought we would dedicate the whole week to a range of activities based on the wonderful world of books and reading. The theme of this year’s World Book Day is ‘share a story’. It would be great if you could share some reading with someone at home - maybe a younger sibling, or even share your reading with another relative or friend via a video call!

If you are interested, a link has been provided for an upper Key Stage 2 Digital Library. There are two parts to this: books suitable for 7-9 year old and those suitable for 9-11 year olds. If you click on the cover of any of the books you will be able to hear an extract of the story, in some cases, read by the authors themselves. You might find a new book you fancy or discover an author you hadn't heard of before!

Our literacy Zoom meetings will be based on some of the World Book Day Author and Illustrator Masterclasses and tasks will be set after each session. You will also have an opportunity to design a reading den and on Friday, you can dress up in a book-related costume, if you wish, and we will celebrate some of the things you have created over the week. Maths Zoom lessons will be maths based as usual!

On Friday, the maths set Zoom will be at 9am and we will be having our final Zoom session at 11am as individual classes to celebrate our World Book Day work, look at each other’s costumes and talk about the books that inspired them.  We will also be discussing our return to school and we can answer any questions you may have.

Below are the World Book Day activities everyone across the school will be participating in as well as some optional ones – links will be provided under the activities tab.

Whole School World Book Day Activities:

There is also the next computing session, using Tinkercad to create a 3D diagram. This week, can you design your own house?

Please continue to upload your work to the website. If you have any queries or questions, don’t forget you can make use of the Zoom drop-in between 2 and 2;30pm, Monday to Friday.
